Share Your Story: Cruise Ship Pollution at White Bay
Posted by Rochelle Flood · February 25, 2025 3:33 PMOur community deserves clean air free from the toxic fumes of cruise ships. But for over a decade, we've been forced to endure the polluting diesel fumes from the cruising industry's oldest and dirtiest ships, right in our backyard.
In March, Parliament will debate my Bill for mandatory shore power at White Bay Cruise Terminal. This Bill will ensure that all ships docking at White Bay Cruise Terminal are required to have the capacity to plug into shore power and switch off their engines. This debate in Parliament is a chance to have your voice heard. I want to hear your stories about how the pollution has impacted you, and what it would mean for you if all ships docking at White Bay were required to turn off their diesel engines and use shore power.
Please use the form below to share your story, and how you've been impacted. I'll relay impact statements from our community during my speech in Parliament, to ensure your voices are heard.

Let's Get Dogs on Ferries
Posted by Rochelle Flood · February 20, 2025 10:47 AM · 1 reactionPlease sign our petition calling on the Minister for Transport to allow dogs on ferries.
476 signaturesImagine hopping on the ferry on a sunny day and bringing your dog with you.
With so many people in our community owning dogs, it’s time for transport rules to catch up. We’re so fortunate here in Balmain to have great ferry services into the city, but unfortunately, the NSW State Government still won’t allow dogs on ferries unless they’re in a carrier. This restriction leaves many people with dogs reliant on cars to get around.
Traffic congestion is worse than ever since the Rozelle Interchange opened, and we need to do all we can to make it easier for people to use public transport and leave their cars at home. It can be done in a way that guarantees all ferry users are safe and comfortable – by having a separate area for pets.
If you’d like to bring your furry friend on the ferry, please join our campaign.

Rozelle Parklands and Easton Park Masterplan: Have Your Say
Posted by Rochelle Flood · January 22, 2025 4:32 PMOur community deserves access to quality parks and well-maintained green space. Right now, Inner West Council is consulting on the future of Rozelle Parklands and Easton Park, and you have an opportunity to have your say.
Inner West Council is considering taking over the care, control, and management of Rozelle Parklands from the NSW Government.
Community members have raised concerns about this proposal given the high costs for ongoing maintenance. Maintaining Rozelle Parklands would cost rate-payers a whopping $650,000 every year.
Sporting groups have also expressed disappointment in how existing fields have been maintained, with the poor maintenance of Leichhardt Oval being a recent example.
Rozelle Parklands was given to our community following years of disruption from WestConnex.
The parklands must be maintained to a high standard for our community, and it's not reasonable to expect rate-payers to foot the bill every year.
Please use our template to have your say and help shape the future of Rozelle Parklands and Easton Park. You can customise the email and share any specific feedback you have on this proposal.
We are calling on the Inner West Council to:
- Keep the care, control, and management of Rozelle Parklands with the NSW State Government to avoid a whopping $650,000 annual cost to residents and our community.
- Support the proposal for two new raised pedestrian crossings at Easton Park entry and at Ryan Street.
- Support the protection of existing trees in both Rozelle Parklands and Easton Park. Support the planting of a new Fig Tree Avenue in Easton Park and additional shade trees in Rozelle Parklands.
- Support the proposal for a community garden and a bushtucker garden in Easton Park.
You can also provide feedback on the proposed dog on and off-leash zones, playground upgrades, and more.

Revitalise Norton Street
Posted by Rochelle Flood · January 16, 2025 4:34 PM · 1 reactionPlease sign our petition calling on Inner West Council to prioritise the delivery of the Norton Street Masterplan, to help revitalise this beautiful part of Leichhardt.
385 signaturesNorton Street is so important to our community. There’s already a lot to be proud of, but by working together, we can make it even better.
Inner West Council promised progress on the Norton Street Masterplan during the last financial year. Local residents and businesses were to be given opportunities to provide feedback on draft plans and priorities for the revitalisation of this precinct.
We are now well past that deadline and the promised Masterplan is nowhere to be seen. There’s been no meaningful consultation with our community, and we deserve better.
Inner West Council needs to create a long-term plan with dedicated investment in shared space for local businesses where our community can thrive. They must also commit to giving residents and local businesses a voice in the masterplan process.
Please sign our petition calling on Inner West Council to deliver a fully funded Masterplan to help revitalise Norton Street today.

Mandatory Shore Power for White Bay Cruise Terminal
Posted by Rochelle Flood · November 27, 2024 10:59 AM · 1 reactionOur community deserves clean air free from the toxic fumes of cruise ships. But for more than a decade, we've been forced to endure the toxic fumes of the cruising industry's oldest and dirtiest ships, right in our backyard.
Cruise ships docked at White Bay Cruise Terminal run their diesel engines around the clock, pumping fumes into our homes and into our schools.
After advocating for over a decade, our local community won a commitment in 2022 from the former government to install shore power at White Bay Cruise Terminal by the end of 2024. NSW Labor committed to seeing it through, but unfortunately, the government revealed the shore power rollout has been delayed until 2026.
When shore power is finally installed, we need to ensure that only shore power capable vessels can dock at White Bay, to prevent older ships that can't use shore power from docking and continuing to run their diesel engines.
That's why I've introduced a Greens Bill to make shore power mandatory for all ships docking at White Bay from 1 January 2027.
Please use our email template and write to the Minister for Transport calling on them to support the Greens Bill for mandatory shore power at White Bay Cruise Terminal. This would ensure all cruise ships plug into the grid, rather than running their polluting, diesel engines.
We are calling on the Minister for Transport to:
- Support the Greens Bill to mandate shore power for all cruise ships docking at White Bay Cruise Terminal and to
- Minimise delays to their initial promise to install shore power at White Bay Cruise Terminal. Our community should not be left waiting till 2026 to see action when there was a promise to deliver it in 2024.

Save Wentworth Park
Posted by Ned Cutcher · September 27, 2024 12:40 PMSign our petition below to support returning Wentworth Park to community use
The use of our public land must be decided by the community, not the gambling and racing industries. But right now, valuable green space in the heart of our City is at risk of continuing to be used for cruel greyhound racing instead of finally being opened up for public use.
In the first two months of 2024 alone, two greyhounds were killed and another 99 injured at the Wentworth Park track.
This is despite the industry and the Government continuing to dress up Wentworth Park as one of Australia’s “safest” tracks, with the State Government gifting over $30 million of public money into upgrading it.
The greyhound racing industry has made it clear that it will never prioritise animal welfare, and the community have made it clear that Wentworth Park should be for community use. It’s time to shut down greyhound racing for good, beginning with Wentworth Park.
1,033 signaturesJoin us in calling on the NSW Labor Government to return Wentworth Park to community use
The Greens have long advocated for an end to greyhound racing, with a commitment to support workers to transition out of this cruel industry and a rehoming for all industry dogs. We made the closure of Wentworth Park a key part of our 2023 election campaign and we will keep fighting for it to be returned to public use.
Labor wants to keep the Wentworth Park track open until 2027, which will undoubtedly see countless more greyhounds injured and killed as a result. We must shut this track down, and allow the community to decide how to use the space.

Stop Noise Pollution in Annandale
Posted by Rochelle Flood · September 17, 2024 2:53 PMOur Annandale community has a right to quiet and peaceful enjoyment of their own homes, but excessive traffic noise is making this impossible for many locals.
105 signaturesOur community has faced years of disruption and noise during the construction of WestConnex. Now, Annandale residents continue to face excessive noise from increased traffic movement from the M8, loud construction vehicle movements for the Western Harbour Tunnel, and noise from extraction fans in the M8 tunnel.
The current noise wall on Railway Parade has not been properly maintained and is no longer fit for purpose. This wall is decades old and urgently needs to be replaced and the height of the wall needs to be increased.
We are calling on the Minister for Roads to prioritise replacing the noise wall to better protect residents on Railway Parade and Pritchard Street from excessive vehicle noise.
After years of noise and disruptions due to WestConnex, our community deserves better.
Join me in calling on the Minister for Roads to:
- Replace the noise wall to protect Annandale residents on Railway Parade and Pritchard Street from excessive noise pollution

Stop Cruise Ship Pollution
Posted by Rochelle Flood · September 03, 2024 1:52 PM · 1 reactionOur community deserves clean air to breathe.
But for 10 years since White Bay Cruise Terminal opened, we have been a dumping ground for the cruising industry's oldest and dirtiest ships. Without shore power, these huge ships are left to run their diesel engines around the clock while they're in port. It's the equivalent of having an additional 4000 cars on our roads each year, pumping out toxic fumes right into the homes of Balmain residents.
After advocating for over a decade, the local community, with the support of the former Member for Balmain, Jamie Parker, won a commitment from the former government to install shore-to-ship power at White Bay Cruise Terminal by 2024.
At the 11th hour, community advocates and residents were blindsided by a confession from the NSW Premier, revealing significant delays to the roll-out of shore power. Not only have NSW Labor confirmed they will not meet the deadline, but they've indicated our community could be waiting till 2027 to see an end to cruise ship pollution.
JOIN US IN WRITING TO THE MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT
We are calling on the Minister to commit to urgently finalise contracts and get on with installing shore-to-ship power at White Bay Cruise Terminal.
We've created an easy-to-use template email that you can customise. It'll take only a few minutes to let the Minister know that we won't stand by while they kick this issue down the road. We want to see action now.

Ban Single-Use Plastics in NSW
Posted by Rochelle Flood · August 27, 2024 4:23 PM · 1 reactionSign our petition below to call on the NSW Government to ban problematic single-use plastics.
Imagine a living planet, able to thrive without plastic pollution. Together, we can help make this a reality.
For years successive Liberal and Labor Governments have failed to stop plastic pollution. Scientists are now predicting that by 2050, there could be more plastic in our oceans than fish. We urgently need to do more to ensure we are stopping plastic waste from entering our environment, destroying habitats, and killing native wildlife.
The NSW Plastics Plan Next Steps Paper was put out for consultation last year, and disappointingly, no progress has been made on banning the problematic single-use plastics identified in this plan. In August, the NSW Labor Government opposed my bill to ban the release of helium balloons into our environment. Our community wants and deserves better. We cannot let the government continue to kick this issue down the road, we need urgent action to reduce plastic pollution.
740 signaturesWe are calling on the NSW Government to ban problematic single-use plastics including:
- Phasing out the supply of single-use plastic food items including cups, food containers, bread tags, plastic fruit stickers, lollipop sticks, and more
- Phasing out thick plastic bags and plastic produce bags
- Phasing out harmful plastic microbeads in cleaning products
- Phasing out polystyrene food trays and loose-fill packaging
- Phasing out harmful chemicals such as PFAS
- Phasing out the release of helium balloons into the environment
- Introducing design standards on a range of products including washing machines (to filter microplastics from clothes), cigarette filters to prevent plastic from being used, and standards requiring plastic beverage bottles to have tethered lids

Fixing the Housing Crisis
Posted by Rochelle Flood · July 31, 2024 3:05 PM · 1 reactionSign our petition below to send a message to the NSW Premier calling on him to support urgent housing reforms
Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Unfortunately, finding affordable and secure housing in Sydney has never been harder.
After years of pressure from the Greens, housing advocates and the community, we have received the welcome news that NSW Labor has committed to finally ending unfair, no-grounds evictions. This is a really positive step forward to make sure that renters have a safe place to call home, but there is still much more to do to fix this crisis.
Disappointingly, Labor have broken their promise to deliver 30% social, affordable, and universal housing on all public land. Instead, the government suggests that long-term planning reforms and rezonings are the best ways to improve housing affordability.
While new housing supply is part of the solution, the type of new supply is crucial. Expensive new apartments won’t help people who can’t afford the rent now, nor will they make it easier for first-home buyers to get a foot in the door.
The Greens have a plan to fix the housing crisis and ensure everyone has a safe, affordable, and secure place to live, but we need your support to get this done. Will you please send a message to the NSW Premier, calling on him to support these housing reforms?
235 signaturesWe are calling on the NSW Premier to introduce urgent reforms to address the housing crisis including:
- Strengthening the new no-grounds eviction laws
- Increasing rights for renters by introducing minimum enforceable standards for dwellings and allowing pets
- Ensuring affordable housing rents are capped at 30% of a person's income
- Building public housing on public land, including the former WestConnex dive site at Camperdown
- Supporting the phase-out of unfair tax concessions that create an unfair advantage for property investors over renters and first-home buyers including negative gearing and capital gains tax discounts
