  • Join us in Parliament - Debate on the Safer Speeds Bill

Join us in NSW Parliament for the debate on our bill for safer speeds of 30km/h on local streets

    12 registrations

Imagine a city where streets are built as shared spaces for people, not just cars. Where kids can safely walk and ride to school, and where more people are comfortable hopping on their bikes to get to work, rather than sitting in endless traffic. With this bill, we can make this a reality.

The evidence is clear: safer speeds of 30km/h on local streets save lives. A person struck by a vehicle at 50km/h has only a 10% chance of survival. At 30km/h, the survival rate increases to 90%.

Over 100 people joined us when we introduced this bill to Parliament in November. Now I need your support again as this bill comes back for debate. We will hear the government's response to the proposed reforms - and it's important they see strong community backing for safer streets.

Can you join us to show the NSW Government you support safer speeds of 30km/h on local streets?

    Date: Thursday, 26th March

Time: Arrive at 10.15am (to be seated by 10:35am)

Meeting place: Once you have cleared security, please wait in the Legislative Assembly foyer. My team will escort you to the public gallery.

  • A Better Future for Bays West - Sign Our Petition

Sign our petition: Support a better future for Bays West with more social, affordable and public housing and better infrastruture

    880 signatures

There is no doubt that Bays West is where new homes should go - above a metro station, close to jobs, close to services, and supported by infrastructure. But delivering just 10% affordable housing on publicly owned land in the middle of the worst housing crisis in generations is not good enough.

Before the 2023 election, NSW Labor promised that surplus government land would deliver 30% social, affordable, and universal housing. At Bays West, that commitment has been slashed to just 10%.

This is public land. If we are giving up Sydney Harbour’s last working port for this development, it must deliver genuine public benefit - not become a cash cow for developers or another exclusive waterfront enclave for the wealthy. I'm calling on the NSW Government to deliver at least 30% public, social, and affordable housing at Bays West.

We also need to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support a growing population. This includes:

    • Delivering a new primary school
    • Boosting capacity at the local high schools
    • Prioritising more public transport
    • Expanding walking and cycling infrastructure

This precinct has faced the brunt of traffic congestion after the opening of the disastrous Rozelle interchange. We cannot afford a repeat. The government must work to minimise car reliance in the Bays Precinct. They also need to consult widely with the community to ensure this new precinct integrates seamlessly with Balmain and Rozelle

And finally, we're pushing them to work with the Unions and local workers to ensure a staged approach to the closure of the Glebe Island Port. Please add your name to our petition to support a more affordable, sustainable vision for the future of Bays West and Glebe Island.

To the NSW Premier, we call on the NSW Government to:

    1. Honour its commitment and deliver at least 30% social, affordable and public housing on surplus government land at Bays West
    2. Deliver a new primary school in Bays West
    3. Boost capacity at the local high schools
    4. Prioritise more public transport, as well as walking and cycling infrastructure to ensure Bays West is a very low car precinct
    5. Consult widely with the local community to ensure Bays West integrates seamlessly with Rozelle and Balmain
    6. Consult with local workers and Unions to achieve a staged approach to the closure of Glebe Island Port and a fair transition for workers

  • Callan Park for our Community

Sign our petition: Protect Callan Park from privatisation and secure its future for community use

    1,929 signatures

Heritage-listed Callan Park is the jewel of the Inner West. Over the past decade, our community has worked together to revitalise Callan Park and protect it for future generations.

We've made so much progress since 2021. We've secured more than $25 million in public investment to restore buildings, improve public spaces and recover open green space. Community organisations and social enterprises have all put forward proposals to bring the historic Kirkbride precinct back to life in ways that serve the public good.

Disappointingly, the NSW Labor Government has rejected these proposals and is instead proposing to privatise Callan Park. Their proposed changes to the Callan Park (Special Provisions) Act would:

    • Allow long-term commercial leases
    • Weaken safeguards on public open space and open the door to private development on land that has always belonged to the community.
    • Make it harder for not-for-profit organisations to access spaces and easier for private interests to take control of this historic park.

We do not need privatisation to bring Callan Park to life. We need the government to properly invest in its future and back the community organisations and non-for-profits ready to make it thrive.

Callan Park belongs to the community. Please sign our petition to protect Callan Park from privatisation and secure its future for our community.

    To the NSW Premier

We call on the NSW Government to protect Callan Park from privatisation and secure its future for our community by:

    1. Upholding the core protections of the Callan Park (Special Provisions) Act 2002, including public ownership, public access and community-focused use
    2. Rejecting changes that would allow privatisation, weaken safeguards, or permit inappropriate private development on open green space
    3. Supporting not-for-profit organisations, arts groups, health providers and community organisations to activate and revitalise Callan Park
    4. Providing adequate public investment to restore buildings, maintain open space, and ensure Callan Park thrives as a public asset

Sign our petition to protect Callan Park from privatisation and secure its future for our community.

  • Public Land at Blackwattle Bay Must Deliver Affordable Homes

Sign our petition: Tell the NSW Labor Government to deliver social, affordable and key worker homes for Blackwattle Bay

    708 signatures

Everyone deserves an affordable place to call home. Unfortunately, across Sydney, the housing affordability crisis continues to worsen, pushing young families and key workers like nurses and teachers out of our community.

The NSW Labor Government committed to delivering 30% social and affordable housing on surplus government-owned land. It’s deeply disappointing to now see proposals for Blackwattle Bay, at the former fish market site, that would deliver just 7.5% affordable housing.

This once-in-a-generation redevelopment is an ideal opportunity to provide social, affordable and key worker housing in a well-connected area close to jobs, transport and services. Our community deserves a plan that supports diversity and delivers genuine public benefit.

Instead, the current proposal prioritises private development on public land, without delivering the level of affordable housing our community was promised or urgently needs. In the middle of a housing crisis, we cannot afford to miss opportunities like this.

We need more homes that people on low and moderate incomes can actually afford, including for key workers who keep our city running.

Please add your name to help keep the pressure on and ensure public land delivers public benefit.

To the NSW Minister for Housing,

We call on the NSW Government to honour its commitment to deliver 30% social, affordable and universal housing on surplus government land, including at Blackwattle Bay. Public land must be used to meet public needs.

Sign our petition for affordable and key worker housing at Blackwattle Bay today.

  • Callan Park Synthetic Turf Proposal - Submission Guide

Have your say on the future of Callan Park's sporting fields. Add your details below to download our submission guide today.

    55 downloads

Our community deserves sporting fields that are safe, accessible, and fit for everyone who uses Callan Park, from local sports clubs to families, dog walkers and older residents.

Right now, Inner West Council has lodged two Development Applications to replace natural turf with synthetic turf at the Balmain Road Sports Ground and Waterfront Drive Sports Ground in Callan Park. These proposals are now on public exhibition and submissions close on 9 February.

As a parent of kids who play soccer locally, I know how important sport is for health and wellbeing, and how disappointing it is when games are impacted by the weather. Synthetic turf is often sold as a quick fix for overused fields, but in a place as important to our community as Callan Park, it raises real concerns. It creates heat islands, sheds plastic and chemicals into soil and waterways, limits how the fields can be used when games are not on, and locks Council into costly replacement cycles.

    There is a better way.

With best-practice drainage, turf upgrades and proper maintenance, natural grass fields can deliver the same amount of play time for sporting clubs while also supporting dog walking, informal sport, picnics and community use when games are not being played. The state government should be helping councils fund best-practice natural turf, not pushing them towards environmentally damaging synthetic surfaces. We do not have to choose between our love of sport and our care for the environment.

    What you can do

Inner West Council's Planning Panel must consider community submissions before making a decision on these DA proposals.

Add your details below to receive our submission guide, which will provide you with clear, practical points to support natural turf fields at Callan Park, alongside the practical information on where to lodge your submission with Inner West Council before the 9th February deadline.

  • Tackling Lobbying in NSW Politics

Please sign our petition below to help tackle the influence of lobbyists in NSW Politics. Together, we can protect our democracy.

    538 signatures

Political decisions should be made in the interests of communities, not for lobbyists working on behalf of vested interests like property developers and the gambling industry.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) recommended significant lobbying reforms in 2021 to help address corruption risks and limit the influence of corporate lobbyists on political decision-makers.

Despite having more than two years to enact changes, the NSW Labor Government has not introduced laws to curb the unreasonable influence of lobbying in NSW. We've seen the impacts of this failure, with community-led planning decisions undermined following corporate lobbying on behalf of private developers.

Influence like this undermines democratic processes and brings into question the integrity of our political system. We need to reform lobbying laws to protect our democracy.

That’s why I’ve introduced the Greens bill to restrict the power of lobbyists in NSW Parliament and to implement the long-overdue ICAC recommendations. You can help keep the pressure on the NSW Labor Government to act by adding your name to the petition below

    To Premier Chris Minns:

We call on you to clean up NSW politics and restrict the unreasonable influence of lobbyists in NSW.

We ask the Government to fully implement the ICAC recommendations from Operation Eclipse, to limit lobbying in NSW and protect our democracy.

  • Stop Native Forest Logging

Please sign our petition below to stop Native Forest Logging.

    265 signatures

Australia’s native forests are among the most biodiverse and ecologically significant systems on earth. They provide critical habitat for wildlife, support clean air and water, and store enormous amounts of carbon.

Thanks to pressure from The Greens, environmental advocates, and determined campaigners - we've pushed the NSW Labor Government to deliver the promised Great Koala National Park. While this is a fantastic start, we need to secure a permanent end to destructive native forest logging across NSW.

Ongoing logging operations are releasing millions of tonnes of carbon and driving species to the brink of extinction. We know what needs to happen to protect our living planet now and for generations to come. The NSW Government must act now to end native forest logging.

We call on the Minister for the Environment to urgently end destructive native forest logging.

  • Help us shape a vibrant, affordable and sustainable Inner West

Sign our petition to support a vibrant, affordable, and sustainable Inner West.

    227 signatures

Imagine an Inner West built for everyone. Where people can find an affordable place to call home, surrounded by world-class infrastructure and plenty of green space. Together, we can shape a future like this for all of us.

The Inner West Council is in a unique position to help shape a more affordable, sustainable, thriving Inner West for all. Disappointingly, the plan currently being pushed by NSW Labor and the Inner West Labor Councillors will see more profits for big developers and won't fix the housing affordability crisis.

As a community, we need to push for real solutions that put people and our environment at the heart of the Inner West.

The Greens know that planning reforms and outsourcing to the private market won't solve the housing affordability crisis or deliver the world-class infrastructure that our community deserves. That's why we have a plan to:

    • Control rents: We can cap rents in council-managed affordable and key worker housing at 30% of tenant income to keep essential workers - our teachers and nurses - in our neighbourhoods.
    • Prioritise world-class infrastructure, quality services and green space: New housing must come with new infrastructure like green space, community and sports facilities, and safer walking and cycling paths. The inner West already has the least public open space per person in Sydney. With more development on the way, we need serious investment in public spaces and a clear timeline for delivery.
    • Ensure homes and communities are climate ready: The government's obsession with fossil fuels is making heating and cooling homes more costly than ever. We need a planning framework that protects urban tree canopy and ensures our community has access to solar, community batteries, and stronger minimum design standards to make it easier to keep our homes comfortable year-round, while lowering energy bills for everyone.
    • Make developers pay their fair share: Developers stand to make massive profits from new developments in the Inner West, yet the draft LEP only requires them to pay 2-5% towards affordable housing. Council must develop a scheme to capture developer contributions at a higher rate to fund affordable homes.
    • Protect artists, creatives, and local shops:  Innovative, socially-conscious, and community-connected small businesses, artists and creatives have shaped the vibrant, multucultural vibe we all love about the Inner West. The council needs to ensure they aren't priced out of the suburbs they helped to build by offering rent relief and other support if they experience a significant decline in turnover due to construction.

If you want to see a more affordable, sustainable, thriving Inner West for all, sign our petition to Inner West Council today.

To Inner West Council, we call on you to:

    • Control rents in council-managed affordable and key worker housing to no more than 30% of a persons income
    • Prioritise world-class infrastructure, quality services, and green space
    • Ensure homes and communities are climate-ready
    • Make developers pay their fair share
