Save Wentworth Park

The use of our public land must be decided by the community, not the gambling and racing industries. But right now, valuable green space in the heart of our City is at risk of continuing to be used for cruel greyhound racing instead of finally being opened up for public use.

In the first two months of 2024 alone, two greyhounds were killed and another 99 injured at the Wentworth Park track.

This is despite the industry and the Government continuing to dress up Wentworth Park as one of Australia’s “safest” tracks, with the State Government gifting over $30 million of public money into upgrading it.

The greyhound racing industry has made it clear that it will never prioritise animal welfare, and the community have made it clear that Wentworth Park should be for community use. It’s time to shut down greyhound racing for good, beginning with Wentworth Park.

Join us in calling on the NSW Labor Government to return Wentworth Park to community use

The Greens have long advocated for an end to greyhound racing, with a commitment to support workers to transition out of this cruel industry and a rehoming for all industry dogs. We made the closure of Wentworth Park a key part of our 2023 election campaign and we will keep fighting for it to be returned to public use.

Labor wants to keep the Wentworth Park track open until 2027, which will undoubtedly see countless more greyhounds injured and killed as a result. We must shut this track down, and allow the community to decide how to use the space.
