Statement from Kobi Shetty MP on the use of Parliamentary Entitlements

Statement from Kobi Shetty on the use of Parliamentary Entitlements.

11th August 2025

Kobi Shetty MP for Balmain says:

“I assisted residents in my electorate who were organising a public meeting to discuss planning reforms proposed by the Inner West Council that will impact the Balmain Electorate. It was something I believed was within the remit of my Parliamentary responsibilities.

"Upon being notified of a complaint, I sought clarification from Parliamentary Services, who advised me that I had inadvertently accessed the communications allowance when printing flyers for the community meeting. I have since repaid the amount owing, which was less than $20.

"It's disappointing to see the Inner West Mayor using this for political point scoring when the community is working to address real concerns about the lack of genuine consultation on their plan. The council should have organised public meetings and given the community genuine opportunities to provide input in these proposals."
