HOUSING
Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Unfortunately, finding affordable and secure housing in Sydney has never been harder. I’m working with our community and housing advocates to deliver well-located homes that people can genuinely afford.
OUR PLAN FOR HOUSING
- Public and social housing on government land - Publicly owned land should be used to deliver a public good by building much-needed public and social housing. This includes at key sites like the old fish market in Blackwattle Bay, Glebe Island in Bays West, and the former WestConnex dive site on Parramatta Road.
- Genuinely affordable housing – Affordable housing must be kept in perpetuity rather than just for 15 years, and it should be set at no more than 30% of a person’s income, not a 20% discount on market rent. This will ensure key workers like nurses and teachers can actually afford to live here.
- Rent Caps - Make rent more affordable by putting an end to unlimited rent rises. We will establish an independent body to set rent controls and determine fair increases that won’t price people out of their homes.
- Density done well - Ensure new developments are delivered alongside appropriate infrastructure to support growing communities. This includes schools, hospitals, reliable and frequent public transport, good walking and cycling connections, open green space and sporting facilities.
