ENDING GAMBLING HARM
Gambling harm is a serious public health issue that is affecting families and communities across NSW. Children are being exposed to gambling ads, and communities are dealing with the social and financial impacts of pokies losses. For too long, governments have prioritised the profits of the gambling industry over the well-being of our communities. I’m working to put people before profits and reduce gambling harm in NSW.
OUR PLAN TO END GAMBLING HARM
- Ban gambling advertising - Work with the federal government to ban gambling ads online, on TV, and on radio, because exposure to gambling through advertising is normalising risky gambling behaviour for young people.
- Limit the number of pokies – Pokies and other electronic gaming machines should be restricted to casinos and phased out completely from clubs and hotels
- End all-hours gaming exemptions - Poker machines shouldn’t be permitted to run 24 hours a day; they should be shut down from midnight to 10am.
- Mandatory cashless gaming - Cashless gaming should become mandatory across all venues to minimise gambling harm and reduce the risk of money laundering and criminal activity associated with gambling.
