Air Conditioning for Balmain Public School
Please sign our petition to the Minister for Education calling for air conditioning at Balmain Public School
Local kids deserve a safe and comfortable place to learn.
Unfortunately, at Balmain Public School many classrooms temperatures can reach as high as 33 degrees in the summer. This isn’t just uncomfortable. It’s making it harder for students to learn, stay focused, and feel well. In these conditions children are experiencing headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and even fainting. Teachers are under pressure too, managing increasingly difficult classroom environments while also battling the heat.
The recent installation of new blinds—funded through a community grant—has helped reduce some heat, but it’s not enough. What’s needed now is air conditioning across the school. The P&C has obtained a full quote and is prepared to contribute. But the total cost is significant, and it is unreasonable to expect families to fund essential infrastructure on their own.
With hotter days becoming more frequent and prolonged, this is no longer just about comfort—it’s about student wellbeing, health and educational outcomes.
Please sign our petition to the Minister for Education to provide funding for air conditioning at Balmain Public School. Balmain kids can’t do their best in sweltering classrooms.
To the Minister for Education: Please commit to funding the installation of air conditioning in all Balmain Public School classrooms.
