Our public school teachers do incredibly work supporting our kids and giving every student the best possible start in life. But right now, teachers simply aren't being given enough time to properly prepare for their classes.
Preparation time gives teachers the opportunity to plan lessons, mark work, speak with parents and collaborate with colleagues and specialists who support children with additional needs. Despite the demands on teachers growing significantly, preparation time for NSW teachers has barely changed in almost four decades.
85% of teachers surveyed have considered leaving the profession because of a lack of preparation time, and nine in ten said a guaranteed extra two hours a week would make them more likely to stay.
That's why the NSW Teachers Federation is calling for teachers to receive an additional two hours of preparation time each week. This would give teachers more time to properly support their students and help keep experienced and passionate teachers in our public schools.
