The Powerhouse Ultimo is an iconic cultural and historic landmark that deserves to be protected.

Over the last decade the future of the Powerhouse has been rolled by a political dice. Many years of community campaigning has kept keep this local gem alive.

That is why it so disappointing that the new Labor minority government is going ahead with the former government's controversial $500 million redevelopment plans next month - despite strong community concerns about demolishing state-significant sites, a dodgy heritage assessment process and the risk of damaging artefacts in the rebuild.

We are calling on the Minister for Arts to rethink the redevelopment plans, stop the demolition of heritage sites and ensure a transparent planning process.

Thank you to key advocates and many residents who contacted my office to raise this issue with me. I will continue to press on the issue of planning transparency and ensure local landmarks and heritage sites are protected.
