Protect Whites Creek wetlands

Sign our petition calling on Inner West Council to properly maintain the Whites Creek wetlands

The Whites Creek wetlands are a beloved pocket of nature and wildlife right in the heart of the Inner West. This urban oasis is home to a wide range of native animals including Eastern long-neck turtles.

Disappointingly, Inner West Council has neglected to properly maintain the wetlands. In July last year the Labor-led council declined to renew the contract for the wetlands caretaker who had lovingly cared for the wetlands for more than 20 years. The council also declined to award the tender to anyone else, leaving the wetlands neglected and without a dedicated caretaker.

Our community has seen the wetlands deteriorate significantly in the last six months. With the hot weather at the end of December the wetlands were almost completely dry, with council having to truck in thousands of litres of water. We're seeing dead fish, overgrown vegetation and poor water quality as a result of council neglect, leaving the remaining wildlife at risk.

Please sign our petition calling on the Inner West Council to assign a dedicated caretaker to protect the Whites Creek wetlands now and for generations to come.

We call on Inner West Council to assign a dedicated caretaker for Whites Creek wetlands to ensure they are carefully maintained for our community now, and for generations to come.
